After three short-lived relationships, I noticed a pattern. Everything would go perfectly until I introduced the men to my daughters. Each time, shortly after meeting them, the men would disappear without explanation. They already knew I had kids, so I couldn’t understand what changed once they met face-to-face.
The Fake Boyfriend Experiment
Desperate to understand, I asked a coworker to pose as my boyfriend and join us for dinner. As planned, I frequently stepped away, giving him ample time to interact with my girls. By the end of the night, he was pale, nervous, and gripping his fork like it was a lifeline.
When I asked him the next morning, he sheepishly confessed:
“Your daughters interrogated me. They asked about my intentions, past relationships, finances, and even my family background. Your older daughter stared me down like a detective, and when I hesitated to answer if I’d move in or help with expenses, she gave me this look that made me freeze. It was terrifying!”
