At first glance, the scene looked unusual.
Long, pale strands were hanging in neat rows across a backyard, suspended above the ground and moving gently in the breeze. Without any context, it was difficult to tell what they were or why someone had arranged them that way.
The sight naturally raised a simple question: What were those strange-looking strands?
The answer was much more ordinary than it first appeared.
They were homemade pasta being prepared for drying.
