A common social-media narrative suggests that when a married man becomes involved with someone else, the explanation must be something his wife failed to provide. Sometimes the blame is placed on communication, affection, intimacy, appreciation, or even appearance.
Real relationships are rarely that simple.
Infidelity can happen for many different reasons, and responsibility for an affair belongs to the person who chooses to break the relationship’s boundaries. At the same time, understanding why a relationship became vulnerable to distance can require looking at the experiences of both partners.
