After my grandmother passed away, our family began going through the belongings she had collected over many years.
There were old photographs, handwritten recipes, books, sewing supplies, kitchen utensils, and boxes filled with small objects that had probably seemed completely ordinary when she used them.
Then I found one item that stopped me in my tracks.
I had never seen anything quite like it.
It wasn’t immediately clear what it was designed to do, and there was no obvious label or instruction attached to it. I turned it over several times, examining its shape and construction, but nothing seemed to give me an answer.
Naturally, I became curious.
