Brendon died on March 20, 2026, at his home in Indiana. His family initially said he died in his sleep from natural causes. A later coroner’s report identified atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease as the official cause of death, with acute pneumonia and a previous heart attack listed as contributing factors.
His final years were shaped by significant health challenges. Brendon had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and had previously experienced a heart attack. He also underwent spinal surgeries after developing a serious nerve condition that affected his mobility. Despite those difficulties, reports described him as continuing to pursue creative interests, including painting and art.
For fans, however, his story begins much earlier.
In 1997, Brendon landed the role that would define his career. As Xander Harris, he appeared in all but one of Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s 144 episodes across seven seasons. Xander was not the strongest or most powerful member of the group, but his humor, loyalty, vulnerability, and ordinary humanity made him relatable to generations of viewers.
