Her expression changed.
Not dramatically.
She didn’t gasp or jump away from the monitor. She simply became very still.
That frightened me more than anything she could have said.
“What is it?” I asked.
Dr. Evans looked at the ultrasound again.
“I want to make sure I’m interpreting this correctly before I say anything.”
My heart began pounding.
“Am I sick?”
