The death of 20-year-old Mariana Gómez has left her community grieving after she was caught in a violent shooting while simply going about her day.
According to the account provided, Mariana was walking along Fifth Street on a Monday afternoon while distributing resumes and looking for work. She was reportedly focused on building a better future and helping her family when a confrontation involving a local merchant suddenly turned violent.
Around 5:30 p.m., gunfire broke out in the busy area. The merchant, described as a 45-year-old man, was fatally wounded. Mariana was also struck during the shooting and was taken to a nearby medical center, where she later died from her injuries.
