Every morning, just after the butcher shop opened, Lydia appeared at the door.
She never arrived in a hurry.
She never caused trouble.
And for years, she had been one of the quietest customers in the village.
Usually, she bought enough meat for a meal or two. Sometimes a small roast. Sometimes a few cuts wrapped carefully in paper.
But one Monday morning, everything changed.
“Sixty kilos,” she said.
Ovidiu, the butcher, thought he had misheard her.
