Part 2: The Box That Revealed the Truth
For several seconds, nobody in the wedding hall moved.
Elena stood in the middle of the room, staring into the enormous box as if she had just seen a ghost. Her expensive handbag slipped from her hand and landed on the floor with a soft thud.
Inside the box was an old, faded pink blanket, a stack of letters tied with a white ribbon, and six small photographs.
But it was the envelope on top that made her face lose all its color.
Written across it in familiar handwriting were the words:
“For the mother who left us before we were old enough to understand why.”
