When my mother’s estate was divided, everyone seemed to receive something valuable.
The house went to one relative. The family car went to another. Savings and cherished possessions were carefully distributed according to her wishes.
Then it was my turn.
The attorney smiled gently and placed a neatly folded shawl in front of me.
“This was left specifically for you,” he said.
For a moment, I simply looked at it.
