A new exchange of missile and drone attacks has placed the Persian Gulf under renewed pressure, raising serious concerns about the fragile U.S.–Iran ceasefire and the future of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The developments described in late June were not an isolated incident. They followed months of conflict and a broader dispute over who would control shipping routes through the strategically important waterway.
Attacks reported in Bahrain and Kuwait
On June 28, Iran launched missile and drone attacks toward U.S.-linked military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, according to Iranian officials and multiple international reports.
Targets included the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet facilities in Bahrain and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Kuwait said it intercepted ballistic missiles, while Bahraini authorities reported damage to a residential building near the international airport.
The attacks came after U.S. strikes on Iranian military-related sites. Washington said those strikes were carried out in response to Iranian attacks affecting commercial shipping.
