The reading of my mother’s will left me speechless. My relatives received the house, car, savings, and many of her valuable belongings. I received only an old, faded shawl.
The shawl was worn and fragile, with damaged edges and years of use written into its fabric. My sister, Lila, laughed when she saw it.
She said the gift showed how little our mother must have valued me.
I didn’t argue. I simply took the shawl home, wondering why Mom had chosen it for me.
