A shower is supposed to leave you feeling clean, refreshed, and ready for the day. But if your skin regularly feels tight, dry, itchy, or uncomfortable afterward, the problem may not be your moisturizer.
One everyday shower habit could be contributing to the problem: using water that is much hotter than your skin needs.
A long, steaming shower can feel especially relaxing after a cold day or a stressful week. However, dermatologists caution that very hot water can remove some of the natural oils that help keep the skin hydrated and protected. For people who already have dry or sensitive skin, that can make discomfort more noticeable.
The good news is that changing your shower routine does not have to mean giving up the relaxing part of your morning or evening routine.
