Early This Morning, I Was Walking Along the Beach When I Noticed Something Unusual on the Shore

As I moved closer, I noticed something I hadn’t seen from a distance.

It was moving.

Not dramatically.

Just a slow, gentle motion that made me stop in my tracks.

For a moment, I wasn’t sure what I was looking at.

The object had an unusual surface, almost translucent in certain places, catching the early morning light in a way that made it appear almost glass-like. Beneath that surface, faint shadows seemed to shift.

I should probably have stepped back.

Instead, I crouched down.

That’s when I noticed the tail.

It moved slightly.

Then it moved again.

Each motion left a strange line across the wet sand, and I found myself staring at it, trying to understand what kind of creature could have ended up so close to the shore.

Then everything changed.

I heard a sound coming from the ocean.

It was low and distant.

At first, I thought it might be a boat somewhere beyond the horizon.

But there were no boats in sight.

The sound came again.

Longer this time.

I slowly stood up and looked toward the water.

The waves seemed strangely calm.

For several seconds, they rolled toward the shore as they always did.

Then they seemed to pause.

Even the air felt different.

I looked back at the mysterious creature.

Its tail moved once more.

But this time, I noticed something that made me freeze.

It wasn’t simply moving.

It appeared to be pointing.

And it wasn’t pointing toward the ocean.

It was pointing directly at me.

I took a step backward.

Then another.

But before I could decide whether to leave or get help, something happened far beyond the breaking waves.

A dark shape appeared briefly on the surface.

Then disappeared.

I stared at the water, wondering if my imagination was playing tricks on me.

When I looked back toward the shore, the mysterious creature was completely still.

For a moment, everything was silent.

Then, from somewhere out at sea, I heard that low sound again.

And this time, it was much closer.
