Kelly Smith’s Brother Distances Himself from the Case in Now-Deleted Post
A man allegedly identified as Kelly Smith’s brother took to social media to express his stance on the ongoing case. In a now-deleted post, he distanced himself and his siblings from the matter, emphasizing that the focus should not be on Kelly or their family.

What Did the Brother Say?
According to IOL, the brother, identified as Mnr Daniels, criticized the public discourse surrounding the case. He urged people to stop comparing the appearances of Kelly and her sister, Mickeyla, after Davids testified on March 17, 2025, at the White City Multipurpose Centre in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Additionally, Daniels condemned Kelly’s parenting skills, calling her a bad mother and stating that she did not deserve to raise a child. He asserted that his family should not be judged based on Kelly’s actions.
Kelly’s Upbringing
During court proceedings, it was revealed that Kelly was raised in Saldanha Bay, while her siblings grew up in the Northern Cape. Daniels explained that their mother was financially unstable when she had Kelly, so her grandparents helped raise her. Later, their mother met Daniels’ and Mickeyla’s father, and their financial situation improved.
Despite being a bright student, Kelly reportedly struggled with drug abuse. Daniels also suggested that dangerous individuals connected to the case and to Kelly posed a risk, which is why the family remained silent.

“We are fully aware of the potential judgment we might face, and it has become exhausting,” he said.
What Happened to Joslin Smith?
Joslin Smith disappeared from her home in Diazville, Saldanha Bay, in February 2024. At the time, her mother, Kelly, denied any involvement in her daughter’s disappearance. However, a month later, Kelly, her boyfriend Jacquin Appollis, Steveno van Rhyn, and Lourentia Lombaard were arrested.
The state later provisionally withdrew the case against Lombaard after she turned state witness. Meanwhile, Van Rhyn, Appollis, and Smith are facing charges of kidnapping and human trafficking, to which they have pleaded not guilty.
