When my mother passed away, I thought the hardest part would be saying goodbye.
I was wrong.
The difficult part came later, when her belongings were divided among the family.
The house went to my stepfather. Other valuable possessions were given to my stepsister. Her savings and other assets were handled according to the arrangements she had made before her death.
And me?
I received an old shawl.
