His smile was gone before he’d finished looking inside.
The box was small, scratched around the edges, and darker with age than I remembered. Inside were a few photographs, an old hospital bracelet, a folded newspaper clipping, and a single card that had been handled so many times the corners had gone soft.
Leo stared at everything without touching it.
“What is this?”
I sat down across from him.
“This is something I should have shown you years ago.”
He picked up the first photograph.
