Royal AM Takeover Intensifies as Multiple Investors, Including Russian Businessman, Enter the Race

Russian Businessman Among Investors Eyeing Royal AM
A Russian businessman has emerged as part of a group of investors looking to acquire Royal AM’s PSL status. A North West consortium offering R21 million for the club’s PSL status.
Businessman David Skhosana and his partner, who have expressed serious interest.
Former Bidvest Wits General Manager, George Mogotsi, who has also entered the bidding process.
PSL Considering Relegation Rule Change
Due to the uncertainty surrounding Royal AM, the PSL is considering a unique restructuring of the league. Instead of relegating teams this season, the league may promote two teams for the upcoming season. This decision is still pending approval from the PSL’s executive committee.

Royal AM’s Financial Crisis and Liquidation Threat
The club has been on the brink of liquidation, with an appointed curator recommending either a sale or complete shutdown. Despite efforts from club president Shauwn Mkhize to retain ownership, the decision to sell was made.

Tax Debt and Unpaid Salaries
Royal AM’s financial troubles stem from a tax debt nearing R40 million, leading to:

Asset seizures by SARS
Delayed salary payments for players and staff
Overall instability within the club
PSL Sanctions and Suspended Matches
As a result of Royal AM’s financial struggles, the PSL has suspended the club’s remaining 19 Betway Premiership matches. Additionally, the club was barred from competing in the Nedbank Cup’s round of 32, signaling the league’s growing frustration with the situation.
