“Have You Ever Been Unfaithful to Me?”—The Question That Changed Everything

Henry had spent fifty years believing he knew the woman beside him.

They had built a life together through ordinary mornings, difficult seasons, celebrations, disappointments, and all the small compromises that make up a long marriage. But now, as his health declined, Martha decided there were things he deserved to know.

Henry looked at Martha, his voice weak but determined.

“Seventy-three more votes?”

The room fell quiet except for the steady sound of the medical equipment beside him.

Martha sat with her hands folded, her eyes lowered. For a moment, she seemed almost embarrassed by what she was about to admit. Then she took a breath.

“Do you remember how surprised you were when you won by a landslide?” she asked.

Henry stared at her.
