A routine international flight turned into a major aviation emergency when Emirates Flight EK521 crash-landed at Dubai International Airport on August 3, 2016.
The Boeing 777-300, traveling from Thiruvananthapuram in southern India to Dubai, was carrying 282 passengers and 18 crew members. All 300 people aboard survived the accident, but one firefighter died while responding to the intense fire that followed.
The incident became one of the most significant accidents in Emirates’ history and prompted a detailed investigation into what happened during the aircraft’s attempted landing and subsequent go-around.

Flight EK521 approached Dubai International Airport at approximately 12:45 p.m. local time.
Early reports focused on a possible landing-gear problem, based partly on passenger accounts and initial observations. However, investigators later established a more detailed sequence of events.
