A homecoming celebration near Howard University took a troubling turn Friday night when gunfire erupted along Georgia Avenue NW, leaving four people injured and sending crowds scrambling for safety.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Georgia Avenue NW, an area crowded with students, alumni, and visitors attending homecoming-related events. The annual celebration is one of the university’s most anticipated weekends, drawing large gatherings from across the region.
According to authorities, four individuals were struck by gunfire. One victim suffered critical injuries, another was reported in serious condition, while two others sustained injuries that were considered less severe. All four were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
