A routine afternoon in the San Vicente neighborhood turned tragic when gunfire erupted on Fifth Street, leaving several people dead or injured and a young woman among those caught in the violence.
According to the account, 20-year-old Mariana Gómez was walking through the area carrying her résumé when the shooting began. She was reportedly not connected to the confrontation and was simply going about her day.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire broke out near a local business. A 45-year-old merchant who was reportedly the intended target was killed during the attack. Mariana was also struck and seriously wounded.
People nearby attempted to help her and arranged for her to be taken to a medical facility. Despite those efforts, she later died from her injuries.
Her death has left relatives and neighbors struggling to understand how an ordinary trip to look for work could end so suddenly.
Authorities reportedly detained a 17-year-old in connection with the shooting. Because the suspect is a minor, information about his identity and legal proceedings may be subject to additional restrictions. Any allegations concerning his previous encounters with the justice system should likewise be treated as allegations unless confirmed by appropriate authorities or court records.
