President Donald Trump said Thursday that the conflict with Iran is effectively “over,” announcing that he had canceled additional planned U.S. military strikes while expressing optimism about ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Speaking during a tele-rally in support of a Republican candidate in Georgia, Trump stated that Iran had agreed not to pursue a nuclear weapon, describing that objective as the central purpose of recent U.S. actions. He also indicated that discussions were continuing and suggested that negotiators could soon work toward a formal agreement.
Focus on Diplomacy
According to Trump, further military operations were halted in favor of advancing negotiations. He said a naval blockade involving the Strait of Hormuz would remain in place until any final arrangement is completed and formally signed.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Because of its importance to international energy markets, developments involving the waterway are closely monitored by governments and investors worldwide.

Trump also stated that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other regional leaders regarding the evolving situation and the possibility of a broader understanding with Iran.
