A quick glance at someone’s hands can sometimes lead to an immediate judgment. Dirt beneath the fingernails, chipped polish, or rough skin may make people assume that someone is careless, untidy, or unconcerned about personal appearance.
But appearances rarely tell the whole story.
A person’s hands can carry visible reminders of the work they have done, the responsibilities they manage, or simply the circumstances of their day. A little dirt beneath a fingernail may say something about what someone has been doing recently, but it does not reveal their character.
