Have you ever noticed two tiny indentations just above your buttocks? Those subtle dips are known as Venus dimples, named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Admired for their aesthetic charm, they’ve also been linked to good circulation, a strong core, and overall fitness.

What Are Venus Dimples?
Venus dimples form when a short ligament connects the skin to a bony landmark on your pelvis called the posterior superior iliac spine. This creates a natural indentation that’s visible in some people—and invisible in others. Genetics play the starring role: if your parents or grandparents have them, there’s a chance you might too.
Men can have a similar feature, often called Apollo holes, honoring the Roman god of strength. Like their female counterparts, they’re considered markers of a lean, toned physique and healthy circulation.
