For my 80th birthday, all I wanted was to see my daughter. Instead of waiting for her call, I decided to surprise her with a visit to her house. Little did I know, what started as a simple gesture of love would turn into a day we’d never forget.
When I arrived, my daughter’s reaction wasn’t what I expected. She opened the door, looking uneasy, and asked, “Dad, why are you here?” Her tone was hesitant, almost nervous.
“I just wanted to spend my birthday with you,” I said, smiling. But her response surprised me. “Dad, you can’t stay. I have a lot going on,” she replied firmly.
I tried to reassure her. “I’ll wait on the sofa until you have time,” I offered, thinking she might be busy. But she insisted, “No, Dad, you really need to go right now.”
Feeling puzzled and slightly hurt, I walked back to my car. Just as I was leaving, I heard muffled noises coming from inside the house. Concerned, I glanced through a nearby window and saw two unfamiliar people inside.
