Woman Shares How Luxury Car Payments Nearly Ruined Her Finances After Husband’s Influence
A woman took to TikTok to share her financial struggles caused by a costly car purchase, which she was convinced to make by her husband. Her story quickly went viral, capturing the attention of online users who were shocked by the financial burden she endured.
From Dream Car to Financial Nightmare
TikTok user @dr..celiwe.dada opened up about her experience, revealing that she once paid over R20,000 per month for a car. Initially, she was making R13,000 monthly payments on a Mercedes GLC, which was later written off following an accident involving her husband. Despite having shortfall cover, her financial troubles worsened when her husband insisted on upgrading to another luxury vehicle instead of downsizing.

Dr. Celiwe revealed that the accident occurred after she endured gender-based violence (GBV) at the hands of her husband. She suggested that they opt for a more affordable vehicle since their finances were already strained. However, her husband refused, fearing ridicule for downgrading. Instead, he insisted on getting a Mercedes GLB worth R1.2 million—even though he was unemployed.
As the sole provider, Dr. Celiwe found herself paying R23,000 per month, including insurance, for a car in a single-income household. She now warns young women against purchasing luxury cars as their first vehicle.
