19-Year-Old Sentenced to Six Months in Jail After Driving 100 MPH in Crash That Killed Two People

Authorities said Scott was driving a BMW coupe at an extremely high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a Honda CR-V at the Charlotte intersection. According to an affidavit, Scott was traveling approximately 100 mph in a zone where the posted speed limit was 45 mph shortly before the collision.

The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to the BMW’s front end. Investigators said the force of the crash pushed the Honda CR-V off the roadway and into a light pole, leaving its occupants trapped inside the wreckage.

The driver of the Honda, identified as Lorin Manley, was found unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle, according to the affidavit. A rear passenger, identified as Gloria Manley, was also found unresponsive and pinned in the right rear seat.

Both Lorin Manley and Gloria Manley died at the scene as a result of the crash.

A 12-year-old girl was also riding in the Honda at the time of the collision. Authorities said she was trapped in the front passenger area of the vehicle before bystanders rushed to help and managed to remove her from the wreckage.

The girl sustained serious injuries, including internal bleeding and a crushed pelvis, according to police. Her injuries highlighted the devastating consequences of the collision, which left two people dead and a child with severe physical trauma.

Scott also suffered injuries in the crash. Officials reported that he sustained a broken arm and fractures to his back.

Police arrested Scott following the deadly collision and continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The investigation indicated that he had been traveling more than twice the posted speed limit before striking the Honda.

The sentencing brings a significant legal development in a case involving two fatalities and a seriously injured child. While Scott initially faced a sentence of at least two years and seven months in jail, the judge’s decision to suspend that term means he will serve six months behind bars and remain on probation for three years.

The court’s decision also includes the revocation of Scott’s driving privileges and the requirement that he provide a DNA sample.
