The ocean surrounding the remote island was supposed to be peaceful.
Turquoise water surrounded the secluded archipelago, while its isolation had made it a favored destination for people seeking privacy far from the outside world.
Then a storm changed everything.
After the weather cleared, local fishermen spotted a young woman clinging to an overturned kayak near a rocky shoreline. She was exhausted, injured, and barely able to remain above the water.
Her name was Katia.
She was 22 years old.
And according to the story she told rescuers, she had not survived a boating accident.
