On the screen were Lila’s biological parents, recorded shortly after her birth.
They explained that they had been young, struggling financially, and unable to give her the life she deserved.
“We didn’t give you up because we didn’t love you,” her biological mother said. “We did it because we loved you enough to want something better for you.”
By the end of the video, guests were crying.
Beverly had gone pale.
Caleb’s sister knelt beside Lila.
“You are one of us,” she said. “You always have been.”
Then other relatives stepped forward, reminding Lila how deeply she was loved.
Beverly finally snapped.
“I can’t believe you turned everyone against me.”
“No one turned against you,” I said. “You did this yourself. Now leave.”
She looked at Caleb, expecting him to defend her.
Instead, he stood beside our daughter.
“Mom, I love you,” he said. “But you cannot be part of Lila’s life after this.”
Beverly tried to argue, but no one supported her.
She left alone.
I pulled Lila into my arms.
“My real parents loved me,” she said through tears. “And you and Dad love me too.”
“More than anything,” I told her.
That day, Caleb did not choose between his mother and his daughter.
He chose to protect his child from someone who had repeatedly hurt her.
And it should never have taken that long.
